
Wokha, May 5 (MExN): Department of Agriculture, Wokha, organized ‘training cum demonstration on organic farming under PKVY’ at Makharung village under SDAO, Baghty on May 3 at council hall, Upper Baghty.
Resource person Rosemary Ezung (SMS, DAO, Wokha) briefed on Participatory Gaurantee System (PGS) in organic farming and the importance of organic farming.
She spoke in details about the aims and objective of PGS which is to promote growth of Indian Organic Market and the benefits one gets through the system by directly getting access to organic certification. She also stressed on the need of organic products which is in ever increasing demand in the market as well as by the people.
Another resource person, O. Eying Tungoe (AO, DAO, Wokha) spoke on the techniques involved in vermicomposting. He explained the materials used in the process and the conditions under which vermicomposting can be best achieved. He reminded the farmers about earthworm being farmer’s best friend and how one can utilize it to maximum benefit through this system.
For best result, regular monitoring and handling of the system need to be done. He also demonstrated the use of vermibed for the composting process.
Earlier welcome address was delivered by Mhao Lotha (SDAO, Baghty), who also highlighted the purpose of the programme.
Altogether 30 farmers attended the training programme. Vermibed was distributed amongst the group of farmers.
