
KIPHIRE, SEPTEMBER 12 (MExN): Training of teachers and mentors organized by Development Association of Nagaland Children’s Parliament Initiative phase II was held today in Kiphire.
Jiji Joseph, Senior Programme Officer of (DANCPI) highlighted the purpose and mission of this initiative and said that Children’s Parliament is a national and international movement focused on education and governance aspects of knowledge. He said most of people including teachers are not well informed on how to even file a simple document of inquiry in government offices, through right channel.
Due to this, he stated that even students and teachers have anxiety whenever they enter district administration offices or any government set up. The Children’s Parliament is an opportunity where students can understand the working mechanism of government, and have access to the rights in their disposal under the government set up.
He added that the Development Association of Nagaland is an organization constituted in 1985. Initially their projects were mostly focused on building schools, colleges and hostels but now their aim is taking further steps in rural livelihood such as creating awareness and help upbringing SHG’s as well as in the community health sectors in different parts of the state.
Holiba A Anar, Medical Officer, District Hospital Kiphire spoke on the role of educators in social emotional development of students. Anar said that the first expression of a teacher’s face is recognized by the students and may create a notion of hapiness or sadness.
They should leave their personal burdens outside as there are many young souls looking up to them when they enter the classrooms and when children are provided with emotional security they need when they feel accepted, valued and appreciated by their teachers, a positive relationship which is based on trust ,understanding and mutual respect will be build, he said.
Rolila, Administrator Sakhi One stop center Kiphire shared on the role of educators in preventing and responding to child abuse.
“As adults, parents we are all a part of caregivers and therefore play a vitol role in protecting children from harm, a responsibility for caring for your own children and supporting them to build relationships that are safe and respectful, they are also equally responsible in identifying and responding to suspected abuse within home, community and school's etc,” Rolila said.
Rolila highlighted on what teachers and mentors can do to prevent child abuse, adding that “we should make our children feel worthwhile attending classes, cultivating a habit of openness thereby creating a safe space for children to share their problems and views.
The session was held at Loyola Higher Secondary School conference hall with an invocation from Holika, Associate Pastor, Sumi Baptist Akukuho (Nito Mount) Kiphire and vote of thanks from Vekhenshe K, Training Associate, Kiphire.
