Mokokchung, September 19 (MExN): A two-day district-level training program on Mother’s Absolute Affection (MAA) for Community Health Officers (CHOs), staff nurses, and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) began today at the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Conference Hall in Mokokchung.
In her welcome address, Dr. Limanaro, District Program Officer (RCH & UIP), encouraged the participants to actively engage in the sessions, urging them to learn, share, and implement the knowledge and practices gained during the training.
Dr. Imlisenba Lemtur, a pediatrician at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), served as the resource person for the training. During his presentation, he emphasized the crucial role of mothers as primary caregivers for children. He discussed optimal infant and young child feeding practices and provided definitions and guidelines for breastfeeding.
Highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child, Dr. Imlisenba spoke on the reasons for refusal to breastfeed, the impact of infant feeding on HIV, feeding practices during illness and recovery, and the nutritional needs of lactating mothers. He also addressed how breastfeeding can influence maternal health and fertility.
The training session concluded with a practical demonstration held at IMDH, Mokokchung.
