DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): The Life Ministry Learning Centre sponsored by NABARD organized a one day training for ‘Nutritious Kitchen Garden’ with 20 participants from Aoyim Village and Old Showba on July 14.

B Nyenghong Phom, Rtd Additional Director, Agriculture Department was the main resource person where he talked about the benefits of kitchen gardens for a healthy living with practical steps on how to maintain a Nutritious Kitchen Garden in one's backyard. A kitchen garden not just helps economically, but freshly plucked vegetable/fruit contains more nutrition without harmful pesticides, can also be a source of exercise and education for the children.

In the introduction session, Samuel Therieh, Director, LMLC talked about the importance of Natural Farming, consuming organic food and being in touch with our soil. The participants after the theoretical session visited the Demo farm and Vermi Composting Unit and learned about the preparation of Indigeneous Micro Organisms, Bokashi, Rice Husk Charcoal, Vermi Composting and Bio Pesticides.

This was the second cohort trained at LMLC under this project. The Master Trainers training was provided to 10 master trainers from 4 villages—Naga United, Seithekema, Aoyim and Old Showba who then mobilize and bring participants from their respective villages and also assist with the training provided.

The first cohort was trained on June 3 with 35 participants from Naga United and Seithekema B Village. LMLC hopes to continue to provide these trainings to encourage natural farming, kitchen garden and also promote local seed bank across Nagaland.
