Training on oilseed cultivation held

Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Two-day training programme on scope for cultivation of oilseeds was conducted at the ATMA Conference hall, DAO’s office, Dimapur on April 18 and 19. Temjen, Deputy Director, Agriculture (NOVOD, oilseeds) was the chief guest. Bendangtemsu, DAO & PD-ATMA, Dimapur chaired the programme.

DAO & PD (ATMA) Dimapur stated in a press release that the scheme in-charge mentioned about NOVOD was established in 1984 with an objective to uplift the economy of the rural poor in India. NOVOD also aims to explore the potential of tree borne oilseeds having commercial value, which are grown in forest and non-forest areas. The resource person, Bendanglila, Deputy Director, Agriculture (PP) mentioned that there are about 42 economic species of Tree Borne Oilseeds, out of which 12 have been identified by NOVOD Board on a priority basis. She also spoke on the scope for cultivation of Jatropha and Karanj. More than 30 officers and field functionaries attended the programme successfully.
