Dimapur, March 18 (MExN): Three-day training on “PCR and its uses in disease investigation” was organised by National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM-ICAR), Nagaland for the students of Zoology Department, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) from March 9 to 11 last.

The training was coordinated by Dr Lalzampuia, Scientist, NRCM with the assistance of Dr J Chamuah, Scientist, Dr Stephen, Scientist, Dr Sunitibala, Scientist and Dr Vikram, Scientist, stated a press release issued by the PCC Mass Communication.

Altogether 25 students of B.Sc final year attended the training under the supervision of Dr Sanjeeb K Dey Baidya, Head, Department of Zoology and Dr R Achila, Faculty, Department of Zoology. Amidst the hands on training program, the students got the opportunity to learn various molecular techniques like PBMCs isolation, RNA purification, Proteomics, Primer designing, RT-PCR for studying gene expression and molecular detection of important parasites. Along with the training the students were also assessed for learning outcomes by MCQ test. 

At the end of the program, the students were awarded with certificates, which were distributed by Dr. M H Khan, Director, NRCM and Dr Nazrul Haque, Principal Scientist, NRCM.

Further, Zoology department of Patkai Christian College is already in the process of building direct collaboration with this reputed research institute for seeding quality research and skilled learning among the students for better career progression.
