
Jalukie, May 7 (MExN): A two-day training on fish farming practices, from traditional to scientific methods, and an overview of giant freshwater prawn farming (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) for sustainable aquaculture, was held at the Rehangki Conference Hall, Jalukie, on May 6-7.
The event was organised by the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Peren, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Fish Farmers Interest Groups (FIG) Peren.
During the technical session, resounce person and Proprietor of Kumar’s Hatchery, Kolkata Avijit Kumar Kolay stressed on the importance of proper fish rearing methods, highlighting that fish health directly depends on factors such as water quality, balanced diet, and sanitation.
He also explained the role of fish hatcheries in rearing fish from eggs to early life stages. As per the State DIPR, the District Fishery Officer and Project Director of ATMA, C Dory Yanthan also encouraged farmers to invest time in learning the benefits of fish farming and emphasized the importance of cultivating local fish for the market.
