Training of panel lawyers underway

Justice LS Jamir for separate High Court in Nagaland

  Kohima, April 22 (MExN): The two-day state level orientation and training of panel lawyers organised by the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) commenced today at the Directorate of State Institute of Rural Development, Kohima.  

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Justice LS Jamir, Judge, Gauhati High Court asserted that having a separate High Court in Nagaland will not only solve the problems faced by the NSLSA, but will open many avenues and opportunities for the people of the State. He urged the Justice and Law Department to take up necessary steps to make a separate High Court in the State possible for everyone’s benefit, a release from Nungsangchiba Jamir, Nodal Officer, NSLSA informed. He also encouraged the participants to grasp the opportunities in learning and develop better lawyering skills so they can deliver better service to the people.

  Kharinla T. Koza, Secretary, Justice & Law Department, Nagaland in her keynote address lauded the NSLSA and panel lawyers of various District Legal Services Authorities for their selfless contribution towards the welfare of the society. Stating that working under Legal Services Authority demands excess work, sacrifices and commitments, she said the services rendered by them is nothing short of a noble act.  

The first session of the training had Nino Iralu, Member Secretary, NSLSA, present lecture on “Constitutional Perspective & Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 and the Schemes thereunder”. Akumla Longchari, Master Trainer, NSLSA delivered presentation on “Basic knowledge on various provisions for child & child rights”.  

In the second session, resource persons Kezhokhoto Savi, Advocate, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench and Tongpang L. Jamir, Master Trainer, NSLSA delivered presentations on “Consumer Rights & Its Relevancy to a Lawyer” and “Case Study and Success stories on Consumer Rights” respectively.  

In the third session, Mezivolu T. Therieh, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima & Secretary, Kohima District Legal Services Authority gave a lecture on “Roles & Responsibilities of Legal Services Lawyers, Do’s & Don’ts for a Panel Lawyer”. Open House- sharing experiences was done with Cheliam Khiamniungan, Master Trainer, NSLSA as the resource person. She also presented on “Concerns on rendering Quality Legal Services by the District Legal Services Authority & Legal services lawyers”.  

The training also had group discussion, interaction, and video screening.
