A training programme on mushroom cultivation for denizens of Kiruphema was conducted under Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) at Peducha in Kohima district on February 5 last.
It was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima in collaboration with Kenei Kro-o Kiruphema.
Dr Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Kohima said that mushroom cultivation is one of the shortest, low cost and fastest viable income generation activities for horticulture entrepreneurs.
Dr Mezhatsu was optimistic that the training programme on mushroom cultivation would go a long way in uplifting the economic sustainability of the rural populace.
On this note, he urged upon the trainees to seize the opportunity and become self-reliant.
Master trainer Khekali Sema, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Horticulture) KVK, Kohima talked on the hands-on training on cultivation of Oyster Mushroom through paddy straw.
The participants were also enlightened on the aspects of medicinal, nutritional and its economic benefits.
The programme was followed by demonstration on mushroom production.
Earlier, the function was led by Kenei Kro-o Kiruphema president Neilhoulie Vielie while Makolie Suosahie delivered the welcome address.
