Training of trainers on large cardamom cultivation

Kohima, April 5 (MExN): One-day “Training of Trainers on Large Cardamom Cultivation” under convergence of Rural Development and Horticulture Department, Kohima District was held at DRDA conference hall here on April 5. The keynote address was delivered by Kevipodi Sophie, PD-cum-DPC, DRDA, Kohima, who emphasised on the importance of large cardamom cultivation under the convergence scheme. He stressed that farmers cannot get good return at a very short period of time. Mishento Ghap, District Horticulture Officer, Kohima urged the farmers to seriously take up the project considering the suitable climatic and soil conditions in the district.  

Resource person Senti Longchar from Horticulture Department highlighted on “Nursery Raising Techniques of Large Cardamom” during the technical session. According to him, plants propagated through seeds have more advantages than those propagated through suckers because of the high risk of the spread of viral diseases in large cardamom plantations through suckers.  

Vevotalu Rhakho, Field Officer, Spices Board of India spoke on “Large Cardamom Plantation Techniques in Nagaland” and also spoke on the importance of pollination of the crop through bumblebee. The training program concluded with an interactive session with the farmers.
