‘Treated like a son of the soil,’ says outgoing DC Mokokchung

A formal farewell programme in honour of Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, outgoing Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, was held on Wednesday at the Conference Hall, DC Office, Mokokchung. The event witnessed the presence of government officials, civil society representatives, and community leaders.

In his farewell address, Thsuvisie Phoji reflected on his tenure as Deputy Commissioner, which began on June 2, 2023. Phoji expressed deep gratitude to the people of Mokokchung for their warmth and hospitality. “As an in-law to the Ao community, I was treated like a son of the soil,” he remarked, adding that the love and acceptance he received made his almost two-year stay memorable.

Phoji shared that he began his administrative career in Mokokchung as an Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), making his return as DC all the more meaningful. “I consider myself fortunate and blessed to serve in this capacity in Mokokchung,” he said, while requesting continued prayers as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

He acknowledged the close ties he built with various departments and civil society organizations during his tenure, expressing appreciation for their support and cooperation. “If there were lapses in my words or actions, I assure you they were never out of ill intent,” he said, urging everyone to cherish the good memories shared. He also highlighted that Mokokchung remained free from any major law and order disturbances during his term, which he said was the reflection of the people.

Concluding his speech, Phoji appealed to the gathering to extend the same support and goodwill to the incoming Deputy Commissioner and his team.

Mokokchung gets new IAS Deputy Commissioner

Incoming Deputy Commissioner, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, also addressed the gathering. Verma recounted his early days as a probationer in Mokokchung and expressed his joy at returning to the district in a leadership role. 
“I feel like a child of Mokokchung. It’s an honour to serve again,” he said. Acknowledging the responsibilities ahead, he remarked that even as DC, the learning continues. He sought cooperation and support from all departments, civil society organizations, and the community, assuring that he would do his best to uphold the standards set by his predecessor.

Several dignitaries and representatives of various bodies delivered short speeches on the occasion. The President of the Mokokchung District GB Association, the Chairman of Khensa Village Council on behalf of all villages under Mokokchung district, and representatives from Ao Senden spoke on behalf of apex Ao civil societies. The Chairman of Mokokchung Municipal Council addressed the gathering on behalf of the Urban Local Bodies. Alemtetba, PA to the DC, spoke on behalf of the DC staff, while Er. Philip, Principal of ITI Mokokchung, spoke on behalf of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) members and heads of departments. 

Moakumzuk Tzudir, ADC Mangkolemba, spoke on behalf of administrative officers, and Vesupra Kezo, Senior Superintendent of Police, also shared his reflections.
