Tribal Vision is set to host its first open art competition for the differently-abled this Hornbill Festival. A unique initiative, and a first of its kind, the group announced its upcoming event during a press conference held by the group at DCafe in Kohima on November 18.

The open art competition specially for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) will be held under the theme “Green Environment” in coherence with the growing movement against climate change and global warming. Addressing the press conference, Surhuveyi Tetseo, Chairman, Tribal Vision informed that Tribal Vision will be partnering with Imprint, and Department of Tourism, for the art competition which will be held on December 7 at The Heritage, Kohima.

Tribal Vision which was formed in 2014 is an organization involved in creating opportunities and empowering the younger generation through self-employment and entrepreneurial ventures. “We want to especially promote work culture. And we are here to breach nepotism and isms in our land,” said Tetseo.

On the theme of the open art competition, Tetseo informed that the organization wants to create consciousness on the challenging threats of environment and climate crisis. Reminding of the recent forest fire in the Amazon region, Tetseo noted that our pollution problems are increasing. “We want to give a message through the specially abled, that we have to care and save our environment,” said Tetseo.

Although Nagaland has been celebrating the Hornbill Festival for more than a decade, Abel Assumi, Secretary, Tribal Vision noted that there are rarely any events for the marginalised communities such as the differently abled. "We want to encourage them through their participation, and spread the message of equality as well as creating a greener environment,” said Assumi.

The group informed that the open art competition will carry a cash prize of 15,000 for the winner, 10, 000 for second position and, 5000 for the third. There will be three consolation winners with a cash prize of 2000rs each.

Tribal Vision is engaged in promoting and marketing local products and enabling the youth in self-employment activities. The founders who are all self-employed believe in action-oriented as Tetseo aptly asserted, “Unless we do it ourselves, we can't encourage and empower others.”

Forms to participate in the competition will be available at D'cafe. The Organization has also informed that applicants can submit their applications via email (tribalvisionnagaland@gmail.com) or WhatsApp (8258919187). The registration forms will cost Rs. 100/-
