Kohima, January 26 MExN): Following the demise of Rev Khrutsoyi Luruo, former Chaplain of Nagaland Legislative Assembly on January 24 at CIHSR Chümoukedima, several press releases have come in extending heartfelt condolences to the family and praying for the departed soul rest in peace.
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang said, “A God fearing and a true follower of Christ, Rev K Luruo exuded gracefulness and refinement to people around him. During his stint as the State Chaplain from 2009 to 2016, had the pleasure to be closely associated with him and listened and learned so much from many of his sermons. His entire life has been for the glory of God through his service to the people of the State,” the Dy CM stated in a release received here today. In his demise, our State in general and the Chakhesang in particular has lost a tall man of God, he stated.
Nagaland Power & Parliamentary Affairs, Minister KG Kenye said, “On his demise, we have lost a faithful servant of God who has dedicated most of his lifetime serving our society and the ministry of God. Lt Rev Khrutsoyi Luruo accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour during his student years and his unwavering faith was manifested throughout his lifetime through his selfless service rendered towards the ministry of God. On his passing, he leaves behind a rich legacy which will continue to guide and inspire the future generation,” Kenye stated. His demise is a huge loss to the Chakhesang Community in particular and the Naga society in general, he stated.
Nagaland Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, Minister, CL John said late Rev K Luruo was a committed God fearing Christian leader. “I can still remember the word he preached when I was initially joining the Nagaland State Legislative Assembly.” CL John said, he articulated the word “a leader should be God-fearing, committed and should be always ready to deliver the assign duty diligently for the welfare of community” which still inspires him.
“I should say, he was one of an active Christian religious leader of Nagas in particular, who had served on various capacities with a variety of rank and files,” he stated. “It would therefore be very difficult to fill the vacuum caused by his death and his service to Naga Community and Christian believers in particular.”Nagaland Advisor, CAWD & Taxes, Kudecho Khamo said Rev Khrutsoyi Luruo was a man of high integrity; unshakeable faith rooted deeply in the word of God and selflessly dedicated his life in serving God and humanity.
“In the midst of lost and grieve, we are overwhelmingly grateful to our God Almighty for the gift of his life and joyfully celebrates his ministries and contributions in the field of education, Churches and Society,” Khamo said. “His demise is a great lost not only to the Chakhesang Community but also to the Naga Society as a whole which will be difficult to fill. However, his legacy and good works will continue to inspire and motivate us as we work towards achieving his visions especially for God's Mission,” he added.
The NPF Central HQ, Kohima has mourned the passing away of Rev Khrütsoyi Lürüo, the elder brother of its Working President, Pusazo Lürüo. Rev Lürüo’s contributions to both the Church and the wider society were immeasurable, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire many for years to come, it stated.
About Rev Khrutsoyi Luruo
Born in 1940 at Riinguzu village to Sokhruyi and Pusolu, Rev Khrutsoyi Luruo studied in a private LP school in a thatched house in the jungle just outside the village gate. From 3rd to 7th standard, he studied in Chozuba. About this time, political turmoil came to the Naga hills during which many villages were burnt down several times by the Indian Army. Whole villages were forced to flee to the jungles including Rev Khrütsoyi and his family. After this period, he studied at Govt. High School, Kohima and matriculated in 1961. He then joined St. Edmund's College, Shillong and completed 12th standard. While studying in Shillong, he came to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior through an EU Bible camp.
Due to financial constraints, he returned to Nagaland and served as Headmaster at a private ME School at Phusachodu Village during 1963 - 1964. He then joined UCC, Barapani for BA and graduated in 1968.
Next, he studied for a year at a layman Bible study centre at Kotagiri in Tamil Nadu. He then served as a teacher at Govt. High School Chozuba for 7 months. After this, he was sent on deputation to Guwahati University for BT (equivalent to today's BEd degree). Upon returning, he served as Vice Principal of Teachers Training Institute at Chiechama in Kohima District. He got married to Nokholii in 1973 while at Chozuba and they were blessed with five children.
Heeding a call to ministry, he left his government job and joined as Headmaster of Mission English School (now Eastern Christian School) where he served till 1986.
In 1986, he left to pursue MA in theology at William Carey University in California, USA and graduated in 1988. Upon returning, he joined NBCC as Education Secretary and served for 5 years. He was then called to serve as Executive Secretary, CBCC and served for 15 years. While at Mission Centre, Pfutsero, he also served as President of NBCC for 3 years.
Upon retiring from CBCC, he served as Chaplain of Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 2009 to 2016.
Thereafter, he served as Church Advisor, CBCMHK till this day and continued to preach the Word of God.
