TSEMINYU, SEPTEMBER 14 (MExN): The 31st state-level Hindi Diwas was celebrated in Tseminyu today, hosted by the ANHATU Tseminyu Unit at Baptist Higher Secondary School.
The event, which marks the significance of Hindi as an official language of India, was graced by MLA Jwenga Seb, who is also the Chairman of the DPDB Tseminyu District, a press release issued by ANHATU Tseminyu unit informed.
Hindi Diwas is observed annually on September 14 to commemorate the day in 1949 when the Constituent Assembly of India recognized Hindi, written in Devanagari script, as the official language of the nation. This day serves as a celebration of India's unity in diversity and the role of Hindi in fostering national integration and cultural unity.
In a surprise move, MLA Jwenga Seb began his address in Hindi, acknowledging his own Hindi teacher, Chunbi Tep, who taught him the language during his early school years. Reflecting on his educational journey, Seb expressed regret for not learning more and praised the efforts of Hindi teachers in Nagaland for their dedication in promoting the language.
“The enthusiasm and interest in Hindi among students here are a testament to the hard work of our dedicated teachers,” Seb remarked. “You have not only imparted a language but also a culture, a thought, and an identity. Your efforts are connecting our students with other parts of the country.”
Seb congratulated students learning Hindi for their dedication, urging them to continue nurturing their language skills as they contribute to the nation’s future. He emphasized that language is more than a medium of communication; it is a reflection of thoughts and emotions. He encouraged everyone to embrace Hindi as a part of daily life to enhance personal development and national unity.
During the event, certificates and cash prizes were awarded to winners of various state-level Hindi Diwas competitions, including Hindi debate, essay (Junior & Senior), poem recitation and songs. The occasion was further highlighted by performances from DBS Tseminyu and GHS Tesophenyu.
Speakers included Kekhrienielie Tsikhano, President of ANHTU; Gwahunle Tep, Deputy Director of School Education; Rometo Sema, Hindi Education Officer; and Pankaj, President of JSS, along with other retired Hindi teachers. The celebration underscored the importance of Hindi in promoting cultural unity and its role in the educational landscape of Nagaland.
