Tuensang, November 15 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Cultural Club, Tuensang celebrated its silver jubilee at Tuensang Town Hall on November 15 under the theme, “To preserve and affirm our culture” with B. Bumo Khiamniungan, Registrar, Co-operative Societies, as the special guest in the programme. 


A press release issued by M. Shiu, Media Cell, Silver Jubilee, KCC Tuensang stated that B. Bumo, in his address said that Nagas are blessed with rich and unique cultural items and practices which are very important for everyone to rejuvenate and preserve it. He said that, in this modern society, young people are so much influenced by the western cultures and social media. Under such circumstances, many young people do not know their own culture of hard work, discipline, obedience, respect and tolerance. Therefore, we must never neglect one’s own culture but rather preserved and promote.


“Culture is a way of life therefore we must preserve our culture with clear conscience to maintain our own identity. Organic farming is a part of our farming culture but with the advent of technologies and pesticides, many farmers are using different pesticides in the cultivation of crops and vegetables which are harmful for health. Hence, we must continue to practice our healthy culture of organic farming,” he said. 


He said that, we must live with honesty and truthfulness and never miss the opportunities in life for our personal and community development, but at the same time, we must work hard for the realization of those opportunities to meet the need and requirements of life through hard work and sincerely in our daily activities.


President, CKS, Assistant Research Officer of Art and Culture Department, President, TVCU and President KUT also spoke in the programme. Earlier, the programme started with the invocation prayer by P. Mono, Senior Pastor, KBCT. Welcome address was delivered by P Shingnyu, President, Khiamniungan Cultural Club Tuensang and the reminiscence of the cultural club was delivered by S Peshie Shiu, Former President, KCC. 


Folk tune special numbers were presented by KCC Women group and also by P. Khumo and friends. P. Pheniang and friends also presented special song in the programme. K Tsongtsa, Convener, Silver Jubilee Planning Board delivered the word of thanks and Jongkoi, Associate Pastor Women, KBCT pronounced the benediction. The jubilee programme was compered by KK Chim and M Mongshai.


The programme was followed by jubilee feast. On the occasion, exhibition cum sale stalls were also setup to showcase various unique cultural items and organic farming crops and vegetables.
