Tuensang: Rio reiterates focus on health sector

Tuensang, June 22 (MExN): On the sidelines of inaugurating the new oxygen generation plant in Tuensang, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio held a meeting with Tuensang District Task Force for COVID -19 members on June 22. 

According to a report from the state DIPR, Tuensang Deputy Commissioner and DTF Chairperson Tuensang Kumar Ramnikant highlighted the statistical report on COVID-19 status and apprised the house about the challenges faced by the district in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Tribal Hohos of the district also expressed their grievances in the health sector of the district. 

Rio mentioned about the Government’s focus on the health sector and assured the district that it would keep the people safe and overcome the pandemic. He also urged the gathering to maintain and take care of the various health care facilities in the district.

Boost vaccination & testing

According to the DIPR report, Minister for Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) S Pangnyu Phom stated that vaccination and testing in Tuensang district should be boosted in order to catch up with the other districts. In this connection, he urged the civil societies, tribal leaders and other faith based institutions to play proactive roles in educating the people. Phom said that as of now, vaccine is the only solution for which he sought the cooperation of everyone.

During the meeting, Principal Secretary, H&FW, Amardeep S Bhatia stated that relaxing the statewide lockdown depends on bringing down the positivity rate of the state below 5%. However, he emphasised that it does not mean the pandemic is gone, but everyone should follow the COVID appropriate behaviour. He said that testing rate still remains one of the lowest in the country and highlighted on the need to focus on boosting the testing rate as it would help determine the COVID status of the State and also the vaccination processes. ASHA workers are to ensure that they are in the respective villages to do their needful duties and also facilitate the health care in the villages, he added.

Principal Director for H&FW Dr Neikhrielie said the government and department is being receptive towards the health system of the State and trying to provide every essential service on a need basis.
