Kohima, June 26 (MExN): As part of a high-level review of mega infrastructure projects in the four North-East States and Jharkhand, three key issues related to two major projects in Nagaland were reviewed under the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) mechanism.
Facilitated by the Union Ministry of Commerce and chaired by the Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Amardeep Singh Bhatia, the June 24 meeting brought together senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project proponents.
As per an official statement, the meeting focused on expediting issue resolution through enhanced inter-ministerial and state coordination facilitated by the PMG.
At the meeting, three issues related to two projects from Nagaland, with a total cost of ₹544.65 crore, were reviewed.
One was the Kohima Bypass Road in Nagaland, developed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It aims to decongest Kohima city, improve intra- and inter-state connectivity, and promote trade, tourism, and regional integration.
Both projects are crucial for socio-economic development and enhancing infrastructure resilience in the NE’s challenging terrain, the official statement added.
Apart from Nagaland, 18 issues across 11 major projects valued at over ₹34,213 crore in Jharkhand were examined, including the Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion Project led by NTPC.
In Arunachal Pradesh, the 2,880 MW Dibang Hydropower Project, set to house India’s tallest dam and generate over 11,000 million units of clean energy annually, was among those discussed.
The meeting also reviewed a ₹1,000 crore private sector project by GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd, with the State Government urged to provide full support.
In Sikkim, two projects worth ₹943.04 crore were reviewed, while Assam had one high-value project costing ₹6,700 crore under scrutiny.
Meanwhile, Bhatia reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing the institutional framework for project monitoring and instructed the relevant authorities to take a proactive approach in addressing pending issues.
He further encouraged better use of the PMG platform, accessible at pmg.dpiit.gov.in, by private stakeholders and officials alike to accelerate progress and streamline interventions.
