Committee announces new executive team
Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has inducted the Tikhir Naga and Indigenous Nagaland Garo communities into its fold and has constituted a new team of executives during an emergency meeting held on May 9 in Dimapur.
In the meeting, the NFHRCC reaffirmed its commitment to the Foothills Road project, emphasising that it was originally conceptualised by the Committee in 2013.
As per an NFHRCC release, it also reiterated its resolve to advocate for the Nagaland Foothills Road Project (Trans Nagaland Expressway) to be prioritised by successive State Governments.
The Committee stated that it would continue to support the concerned Department in ensuring transparency, inclusivity, and quality assurance in the execution of the project.
It also reaffirmed its role as a stakeholder and watchdog for the people in overseeing the project’s development from Tizit to Khelma.
In this regard, the NFHRCC cautioned that any “capricious deviation” from the original concept or alignment of the “People’s Road” by any party would be considered a “betrayal” and would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
During the May 9 meeting, a new executive team was constituted with unanimous acceptance of the report of a three-member Search Committee headed by Convenor Chingden Konyak, with Anilo Rengma as Member Secretary and Renthungo Kikon as Member.
As per the Search Committee’s recommendations, Supu Jamir was retained as Convenor while K Himahito Chishi was inducted as Co-Convenor.
Chenithung Humtsoe, who previously held the post of Assistant General Secretary, was elevated to General Secretary, while Yanger Angh was appointed in his place. Iteichu Zeliang was named the Publicity & Information Secretary, and K Mar Lemtur was retained as the Finance Secretary.
Meanwhile, a joint consultative meeting was also held in Dimapur on May 9, during which a resolution was adopted stating that the original alignment of the Foothills Road Project—adopted in 2013 by the NFHRCC and the NPWD (R&B), and endorsed by the ten Nagaland tribal hohos—must be “upheld without any preconceptions.”
The meeting was held between the NFHRCC and the Changpang Area Committee on Foothills Road Project (CAFHRCC), along with representatives from Bhandari and Changpang Circles, including aggrieved villages such as the Sumi villages under Baghty Division.
It further reiterated full support for the resolutions of the Lotha Hoho dated June 4, 2024, and the letter on alignment submitted to the Chief Engineer, NPWD (R&B), as well as a report letter dated September 11, 2024, regarding a joint survey on minor need-based re-alignment conducted by the concerned Department, NFHRCC, and CAFHRCC.
The aggrieved villages of Bhandari and Changpang Circles, including the Sumi villages under Baghty Division, expressed their unwavering support to the NFHRCC, stated a press release from the Committee.
