Dimapur, January 22 (MExN): A grand celebration of Tsahyoknyi festival was organized by the Tikhir Women's Union Dimapur under the theme ‘Unity, Peace and Empowerment’ on January 21 with ADC Niuland Athrila as special guest.
According to a press release from TWUD President Yanlimshe, the special guest laid emphasis on the importance of preserving the rich culture and role of women in the society. ADC Athrila highlighted that the stereotypes and archaic taboos surrounding woman should be done away with especially in the patriarchal Naga society in order foster peace and equality in the family and in the overall development.
She further encouraged womenfolk to race against time for the betterment of the society as a whole. The ADC also congratulated Tikhirs on being recognized as the 17th Naga Tribe of Nagaland recently by the Government of Nagaland.
Exhorting the gathering, S Wongtsu, President of Tikhir Union Dimapur called on the women to make the society better through their endeavor as mothers and prayer warriors.
The programme was led by Y Rechungshe and welcome address was delivered by K Yanlimshe, President TWUD while Rutsangshe also spoke on the significance of the festival. Some highlights of the programme included folk songs presented by women troupe, special number presented by B Yanong, Sunday School and vote of thanks proposed by S Tsusula, Executive Secretary, TWUD, the release stated.
