UGC team completes inspection of SJC Jakhama

Jakhama, August 6 (MExN): The team of the UGC which has been here in St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama since August 5 finished their inspection on August 6. The team which comprised of Prof. A.P. Pandey, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Manipur University, as Chairperson, Prof. Ashok Sharma, School of Chemical Sciences, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya and Dr. Swami Kamalasthananda, Principal, Ramakhrishna Mission Vivekananda as members, informed a press release issued by the College.  

Kuholi Chishi, Director, Higher Education, Kohima, Government of Nagaland represented as state nominee, Prof. S.K Chaturvedi, Dept. of Botany, Dean, RDC, NU as University Nominee and P.N. Gupta, section officer, University Grants Commission, New Delhi as Coordinating Officer.  

There was a special reception programme for them on the second day. The UGC team had come for the purpose of inspecting the college to determine the viability of granting autonomous status to the college.  

The reception programme saw an invocation by Dr. Fr. Boniface S.J. It was followed by an enthralling number by the college choir. That was followed by Welcome Address from the principal of the college, Dr. Fr. S. Ousepparampil. In his welcome speech, Dr. Fr. S. Ousepparampil expressed his desire for the college to rise to a greater height and he stressed the need for granting autonomy to the college to be able to scale greater heights in the coming days.   Bouquets and traditional coats were given to all the dignitaries. This was followed by a dance performed by Chakhesang Cultural Troupe formed by the students of the college.  

On behalf of the UGC team, Prof. Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, the Chairperson of the team, expressed great satisfaction at the well developed infrastructure of the college although the college is located in an interior part of the country. He also expressed his words of praise for the teachers and students for their dedication and hard work shown by the impressive development that has been achieved at the college.  

Prof. Pandey expressed his confidence that St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama will soon become one of the leading educational institutions in the entire North East India. After having rounds of interactions with the student’s body, non-teaching staff and others, the team visited the many facilities in the college.  

The concluding part of the visit was with the Exit Meeting held at the conference hall of the college. The members of the visiting team expressed their sincere gratitude for the hospitality shown to them and making them felt at home. “They also stressed on a point that it is difficult to get things done in such part of the land, but St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama is doing great,” the release added.
