UGs involvement in Shamator dispute alleged

Dimapur, Jan 10 (MExN): The NSCN-IM is being charged of plotting to attack Kiusam EAC HQ and Pokphur Village with active support of certain DBs. According to the Kiusam Area GBs Association writing on behalf of Kiusam public  on January 3, a meeting was held at the residence of  one Shenlithong, Supervisor in Pungro CDPO office, where Tsulimthong, Yamuli (Leacy), Alo and Muremong of YMC Region, NSCN(IM) attended to chalk out plans to attacking Kiusam EAC HQ and Pokphur Village. Head DB Tsikilu, and DB Luthong, both of Pungro town actively involved and co-coordinated in the plan, a note from the association stated.

Then, they directed the villages in Pungro area to send twenty youths along with the Village Guards (VG). The villages involved are Yimkiur, Chomi, Longtsong, Zaonger, Pungro village, Pungro town, Luthur, Penkim and Salomi, the note informed. The district administration of Kiphire was immediately informed verbally by Tikhir Tribal Union Kiphire (TTUK) members on that day itself. However, no action was taken.

On the 3rd, on the pretext of a verification duty Thsanthong, Deputy Commandant of Kiphire VG, distributed assorted bullets to the VGs of Pungro area and the Yimchunger public. The TTUK informed the administration of Kiphire for serious inquiry. The report is still awaited, it stated.

On January 5, a “well armed Yimchunger mob” attacked Pokphur village and Kiusam EAC HQ and razed six Government buildings including the official residence of EAC Kiusam along with 12 private buildings. Domestic animals were also killed in the raid, it alleged. On the 6th, the movement of Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Kiphire was restricted at Longtsonger village by the attackers. Again on the 7th, IRB personnel proceeding to Kiusam town were forcefully made to stay at Zaonger village by armed Yimchunger mobs and were made to proceed only the next day. The administration (DC and SP) of Kiphire and IRB personnel “mutely watched these developments in person and they rather followed the diktats of the armed Yimchunger mob without any action” the Kiusam GBs alleged.

The armed attackers are still allowed to roam free and attack whichever Tikhir-inhabited village they choose to attack and they are also still camping in Kiusam areas with “the knowledge of the administration/police and no Government action is taken for their disbursement or to arrest them” the GBs claimed while questioning if the Government deployed IRB personnel on the “mere pretext of protecting the villages and are conniving with the armed Yimchunger attackers”.

“The Kiusam area public would like to state that the patience of the villages hold up in their respective villages is running out as the hope that the government will take appropriate action has dimmed with the attacks on the villages happening with their knowledge and no action being taken” the GBs stated strongly appealing for immediate action “or else we demand that the security forces be immediately withdrawn from Kiusam Area to allow us to be free to respond to the attackers”.
