UGs should respect ground rules: Thenucho

KOHIMA, OCT 18 (MExN): State Home Minister Thenucho yesterday said that undergrounds groups should respect the ceasefire ground rules. 

“UGs should abide by the ceasefire agreement. They don’t have the license to kill” Thenucho lashed out at the underground groups today during a press conference at his office chamber.

However, the Home Minister maintained that in spite of the factional feuds in various parts of the state, Nagaland is far peaceful than any other sisters states of the North East. 

“We have discussed with the government of India. They have assured to amend the ground rules”, Thenucho said addressing the press conference at his office chamber today. 

“As for me I don’t want bloodshed. Killing will not help. It has to be stopped”, the Home Minister added. 

Thenucho also said that it is difficult to control the underground cadres from creating law and order problem as they ‘have guns in their hand.’

Also, Thenucho infromed that the state government is working on to provide  better facilities to the police force  For which the government has already acquire 500 acres of land to set up a police training institute at Razhephema. However, because of the land dispute between Gaili and Razhephema villages it could not be materialized till date, the Home Minister also disclosed. Thenucho refused to disclose the cost of the project stating that the government is yet to go through the technical committee.

“Unless we give the best training to the police, we may not be able tackle law and order problem”, Thenucho asserted. He said that he was impressed by the “Singapore way” of policing.

“They have a good relationship between the politician and the officers, best training, with all modern and scientific infrastructure both for investigations and prevention” Thenucho maintained.

The Home Minister also said that there is need to develop a community police. This, he said is to bridge the gap the between the public and police personnel while maintaining law and order situation in the state. “There are many areas for improvement and one thing is building a relationship between the public and the police”, the Home Minister added.
