ULB representation issue: CCC&TA reiterates call for indefinite shutter down

Chümoukedima, May 4 (MExN): The Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association (CCC&TA) has reminded the State Government of the issue of equal representation of the business community in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and reiterated the call for an indefinite shutter down if the demand is not met.

In a press release issued, the CCC&TA reiterated its longstanding position, stating that it had repeatedly urged the State Government to take necessary steps to ensure fair representation.

Despite reminders, the government is yet to act on the timeline set by the competent authority, specifically the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department, it said.

The CCC&TA expressed dissatisfaction with what it termed the “lackadaisical attitude” of the Government and warned that the failure to address their “genuine and legitimate demand” had left them with no option but to call for an indefinite shutdown of business establishments.

The Association also stated that the decision was taken in solidarity with other district chambers across Nagaland, which have also raised similar concerns.

It must be noted here that nine District Chambers of Commerce—Dimapur, Zunheboto, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Phek, Wokha, Tseminyu, Peren, and Meluri—in a joint reminder on April 30, had urged the State Government to honour its assurance regarding representation to the ULBs.

The reminder follows a temporary suspension of the planned statewide shutdown initially scheduled for April 24. The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) had earlier deferred the protest following an invitation from the State Government for dialogue and its request for two weeks’ time to address the issue.

The two-week deadline expires on May 7.
