‘Unauthorised’ NSCN (R) camp sealed, 3 held for kidnapping

DIMAPUR, JUNE 21 (MExN): A group of three allegedly involved in kidnapping and robbery has been arrested by the Dimapur police. As per a press release from the Dimapur police, three cadres belonging to two different Naga Political Groups, were arrested “on multiple charges of kidnapping & robbery” on June 20. 

The three were identified as Leacy Gihuka Jakhalu (29 years), NNC/FGN; 2nd Lieutenant Khetoka Chophy (34 yrs), NSCN (R) and Captain Tokato Awomi (31 yrs), NSCN (R). The release said that their modus operandi was to “waylay” construction workers and extorting money. 

A police official added that they have been operating for the past 1-2 months targeting labourers at construction sites at Purana Bazaar, Nagarjan and 2 ½ Mile and abducting them for ransom. While stating that atleast 4 similar complaints have been registered in two police stations, the official said that police are on the lookout for more accomplices.   

Three cars along with one motorbike, which were used in the commission of the crimes, were also seized. 

Further, the release informed that the police raided and sealed an “unauthorized mobile camp operated by NSCN (R) in Padumpukhuri area for violation of Cease fire ground rules.”  The official added that the “camp” was linked to the three arrested individuals.
