UNC call for commemorating Aug 3

SENAPATI, JULY 28 (MExN): The United Naga Council (UNC) has called for observing August 3 – the date of signing of the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) – as a Historic Day. In this regard, the UNC appealed all concerned - tribes, women, students and youth bodies, including church leaders, villages and others to commemorate the occasion by holding special prayer programmes in their respective jurisdictions for expediting the process towards finalisation of the Framework Agreement.   The UNC, in a press statement, iterated that the Naga people have been “patiently and prayerfully” waiting for the Indo-Naga political talks to come to a logical conclusion since August 1, 1997. While stating that a sign of hope emerged on August 3, 2015 when the Framework Agreement was signed after more than 18 years of waiting, the UNC urged the GoI and the NSCN (IM) “to translate and finalise the Framework Agreement with political will, which is acceptable and honourable to the Naga people based on the unique history of the Nagas and its situation into its logical conclusion at the earliest.”
