Unpaid for 22 months, PWD work charge employees to go on strike

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 20 (MExN): Field workers of the Nagaland Public Works Department (PWD) have cautioned the Nagaland Government that they would go on strike if pending salaries for B, C and D grade employees are not fulfilled by January 31.

A press release from the All Nagaland PWD Field Worker’s Association (ANPWDFWA) informed that as per the Government of Nagaland’s office memorandum, dated August 21, 2021, physical verification was conducted in Divisions/Sub-Divisions by a verification committee under the NPWD.

The verification process was to be completed within a period of one month. However, it stated that it has now been almost five months and the physical verification report has not been declared so far. Further, it informed that it has been 22 months since the salaries of B, C & D category were released.

Meanwhile, the association said that, as per government’s standing order there exists only C & D category employees, “however as per departmental corrigendum order, B category is also” included.

As a result of which the work charge employees are facing untold difficulties to clear their ward’s school fees as well as to maintain their family, it said. It therefore cautioned the department that in case any genuine work charge employees are dropped out in regard to the verification report submitted by the verification committee, the department would be solely held responsible.

It further cautioned that if the demand for pending salaries was not fulfilled by January 31, all work charge employees under the NPWD will go on indefinite strike/agitation. The association meanwhile directed the unit office bearers to “get ready for the proposed strike/agitation.”
