Using villagers as human shields by factions condemned

Dimapur, Sept 23 (MExN): The Litsami Fellowship of Dimapur and Kohima have expressed deep pain for the factional clash at Litsami Village on September 22 and among others condemned the action of using innocent villagers as human shields and causing public casualties.

“We condemn the factions concerned for using innocent villagers as a human shield and unleashing terror and destruction in the heart of the Village, despite assurances earlier to the Emlomi and Litsami Villagers, by both factions that they will maintain restraint and not indulge in clashes” stated a note of condemnation from the fellowship.

It also expressed strong condemnation for causing multiple bullet injuries on an innocent civilian housewife, one Inoli Satoli wife of Ino Khutovi and inflicting damage on their residential house and property. The fellowship stated that this has caused unrest, spreading fear psychosis and resulting in complete cessation of all harvesting activities.

“We appeal to the warring factions concerned to cease all hostilities immediately in Litsami Village and Emloto Area. We also feel that such incidents will not advance any cause, rather earn public wrath on the faction concerned. The factions should be aware that ‘ disruption of harvesting’ may result in negating the year long labor and efforts of the entire Village and cause so much hardship and starvation on the innocent Villagers” the fellowship through its Chairman Dr K Assumi and General Secretary Huqheto Aye, reminded the factions. “You should be responsible for your actions. We also call upon both the factions to immediately render all possible assistance for the complete destruction of the residential house and property as well as defray the medical expenses incurred by the victim” it stated.

The fellowship also called upon the Government of Nagaland and the district administration concerned to undertake an on-the-spot assessment and restore law and order at the earliest. “The Government should also extend adequate assistance and compensation to the victim, undergoing medical treatment at Zunheboto, and for the destruction of residential houses and properties as a result of the factional clash” the fellowship demanded.
