Vaccination drive carried out in Tseminyu

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 25 (MExN): The Veterinary Department, Tseminyu carried out a vaccination camp and awareness programme on August 24 at Phenshunyu, Phentejon and Zumpha. The department went from door to door visit to vaccinate livestock. Altogether 116 livestock and pets were vaccinated including 30 dogs with Anti-Rabies, 72 pigs with swine fever and 14 cattle with HS+BQ and Brucellosis.  

At Phenshuyu village, Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, VAS Tseminyu briefed about the importance of timely vaccination in livestock against some highly contagious disease in order to avoid huge economic loss on outbreak. He also briefed about dangers of consuming unhealthy/sick meat and how dreadful rabies could be and what should be done if one is beaten by a dog.  

In a press release, the VAS Tseminyu stated that livestock are reared by the farmer primarily for economic purpose and therefore the vaccination was carried out to prevent an outbreak of some highly contagious disease which might cause a huge economic loss to the poor villagers. He further stated that most of the villagers are unaware of Zoonotic disease and thereby putting their lives at high risk of contracting deadly disease from meat and animals for which the awareness programme was conducted.
