Kohima, January 19 (MExN): The Naga Student’s Federation (NSF) on Wednesday appealed to the school and government authorities to refrain from forcing students to take the COVID-19 vaccination.
Citing multiple complaints that education institutions have been making it compulsory for students to attend classes or appear in examinations, the NSF issued a statement such ‘dictatorial practices’ were “unbecoming of the authorities as vaccination should be taken with the free will and clear conscience of the receiver and not forced upon.”
“While placing on record that the Federation is not against COVID-19 vaccine, forcing the same upon the students is not the right way forward,” NSF President Kegwayhun Tep and Secretary for Education Medovi Rhi said in the statement, adding that such practices have been a cause of great mental and emotional stress to the young students.
The NSF also appealed to the student community to exercise prudence and ensure that all COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down by the appropriate authority are followed in toto in their everyday dealings.
“More so, the vaccine hesitancy needs to be done away after having thoroughly studying the health implications based on scientific facts and not just relying on hearsay or fake social media updates. This way, our society can trump over the deadly COVID-19,”it added.
