Dimapur, May 16 (MExN): In a significant enforcement action under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, the Vihokhu Village seized and handed over 266 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) to the Excise and Prohibition Department on May 14.
Terming the move as “commendable action,” Limatemsu Changkiri, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur, praised the council’s “proactive and responsible step” in upholding the law.
“This action reflects the Village Council’s strong commitment to enforcing the NLTP Act and maintaining the rule of law,” Changkiri stated in a press release. “Their prompt cooperation sets an example for other villages in the district.”
The department has urged other village and colony authorities across Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland districts to follow suit and assist in curbing the sale and distribution of illicit liquor.
“Information regarding such illegal activities should be promptly reported to the nearest Excise office for necessary action,” Changkiri added. The Excise Department expressed hope for continued community collaboration to build a “safer and healthier society, free from the harms of illegal alcohol.”
