Village councils demand resumption of work on L-022 to Yingphire village road

Dimapur, April 22 (MExN): The joint council of Yingphire and Thangthure villages in Kiphire district has brought to the attention of the Chief Engineer, PWD (R&B), Nagaland that the road construction from ‘L-022 to Yingphire Village’ under PMGSY which started in the mid 2012 has come to a halt after the first round of soiling in the later part of 2014.

The road construction which was supposed to be complete by the end of 2016 is not yet done even 25%, stated an open letter appended by Yingphire’s Head GB Aseba Sangtam and council chairman Lichose and Thangthure’s Head GB Chorise Sangtam and council chairman Atsacho. The letter asked the Chief Engineer to depute the concerned officer in-charge to check the ground reality.

According to the letter, councils of the two villages had jointly approached the concerned contractor/s several times for resuming the construction work as the road is the only lifeline for the two villages, “but all our appeals and request has turned on deaf ear claiming that the Government is not sanctioning fund for the construction and they are helpless without the fund.”

The two villages located in the most remote part of the State have been left untouched in various development activities, it lamented.

It further stated that due to non-maintenance of the road one has to travel on foot for 12 hours for any matter to reach Kiphire, the nearest town. “The small visible road that has been left unattended for over two years has now become no road visible. Now the rainy season is here and with this condition of road the lives of the public are at risk due to various reasons.”

In this light, the joint council has appealed to the Chief Engineer to look into the matter seriously and release the fund (if not yet released) as per the execution of the work and apprise the concerned contractors to resume the work/s immediately as per the guidelines allotted in the work order.

If the contractors concerned is neglecting, it stated, the same should be penalized as per the law. “The genuine demands of the public is expected to address at the earliest as the resentment of the public are running out of patience for any course of action,” it added.
