
Kiphire, July 18 (MExN): The Forest Department has welcomed the positive step taken by the village councils of Fakim, Vongtsuvong, Thanamir, Penkim, Salomi and Zhimkiur in imposing total ban on fishing in their respective jurisdictions.
“This is seen as a very encouraging trend towards conservation and protection of wildlife and natural resources, with many other village councils taking up similar steps,” stated a press release issued by Samom Khelen Singh, IFS, Wildlife Warden, Wildlife Division, Kiphire.
The release mentioned that the District Administration has banned logging operations in Pungro sub-division since May, 2016. It termed the logging ban another commendable effort towards conservation of the rich biodiversity and a model for the entire State.
Meanwhile, the press release also stated that the villagers of Fakim benefitted greatly when two of their youths, Y. Tsuseki and Y. Limthure, received two days training on poultry and piggery farming at the ICAR facility at Medziphema in the month of June.
The training included theory and practical components on scientific methods of pig farming and process of artificial insemination, production process of poultry farming, breeding as well as ventilation system of eggs, vaccination, feeding etc.
The resource persons were Dr. Talimoa, Research Associate and Dr. Sham, both scientists at ICAR, Medziphema. Following this, 1015 numbers of chicks were also provided to them which were later distributed to the villagers of Fakim.
