Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): Following a dispute over use of village name, youths of Khulazu Bawu village has issued a call against a programme by Khulazu Basa village.
The Khulazu Bawu Youth Society explained this in a press note: Two villages, Khulazu Bawu (old) and Khulazu Basa (new) in Phek were officially recognized by the government and since then, in existence. To maintain ‘brotherhood’ between the two villages a school called Khulazu School, using both the villages’ common name was established in 1972.
However, in the past few years, Khulazu Basa has been attempting to “cunningly” use “Khulazumi” excluding the name ‘Basa.’ This was not allowed to be used by the government of Nagaland and various Chokri organizations including the Chokri Area Public Organization. The term “Khulazumi” was not permitted for use without using ‘Basa’ the KBYS explained. The district administration had also issued an order on January 5, 1994 directing Khulazu Basa not to use any other names without the specific approval of the government. But Khulazu Basa has brought out the issue by using the term “Khulazumi” to make treaties with other villages, in violation of the government’s directive.
In this regard, the KBYS views a programme printed by Khulazu Basa village using the controversial term, as an insult and a challenge. The KBYS warned it will not be a silent spectator but will initiate action deemed fit. Advising all against attending an event being organized under the term “Khulazumi” by Khulazu Basa village, the KBYS made clear that it would not be held responsible for any eventuality that may rise over this issue.
