Woman found murdered

DIMAPUR, MARCH 30 (MExN): With little or no headway made in the February 18 rape and murder investigation of a 13 year-old girl, another mysterious murder of a young woman has taken place. Police on March 28 recovered the body of an unidentified woman with a bullet wound and signs of strangulation on the neck. The body was found partially buried at a spot adjacent to the Inter-State Bus Terminus near Purana Bazaar around 10:30 am on Friday.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur quoting the post-mortem report stated that the body bore one bullet wound on the left abdomen and a ruptured windpipe indicating strangulation. Rape, however, could not be established. Mongoloid in appearance, the victim is believed to be between 15-20 years of age. The victim’s identity is yet to be established and the body is now kept at the district hospital morgue. Investigators have not been able to establish any vital clues except account of residents in the vicinity stating that they heard sounds of a woman screaming in the night.

One held for attempted molestation of minor

A 26 year-old identified as Surful Islam was arrested on charges of luring a girl away reportedly with intent of molestation. The incident occurred on March 28 last. According to the police, the accused was arrested from Tutu colony, Lahorijan, Karbi-Anglong after residents of the locality complained of him trying to inappropriately and forcibly touch a young girl. It was alleged that he had tried to molest the girl. 

The girl was lured by the accused after he found her strolling alone at the Dimapur Railway station earlier in the day, police said. The girl, a resident of Dimapur, had reportedly run away from home and was taking shelter at the railway station. She was later handed over to her parents. The accused, who hails from Samaguri, Nawgaon, was a resident of Burma Camp, Dimapur.
