Do You Support 33% Women Reservation in Urban Local Bodies?

Looking at the present scenario where women are denied opportunities and privileges due to this patriarchal system, where all laws and position of decision making in the state and districts are male centered / dominated by male members and where there is gender division of labour.   33% Reservation for Women in Urban Local Bodies is extremely important and is crucial in our current situation. This reservation will surely help to remove 'discrimination', denial of opportunities and 'weaker sex' tag. Therefore, I strongly support 33% Women Reservation in Urban Local Bodies as this will assuredly be a stepping stone for them to take a step ahead to be at par with men.

Yes, I totally agree with the 33% reservation for women as a sociologist myself. We have certain traditional beliefs but we can't stick everything to the past if we believe in modern education now. Or else what are women acquiring education for? If men are not so afraid of being dominated, give women a chance once. To let the society see the efficiency/inefficiency lies in the hands of women thereafter.

Come on... Women truly deserve equality. After all, isn't that what we should live up to? Having them in local bodies’ or higher office doesn't means, it's the end of the world... Instead, we should encourage and be proud of their capabilities in taking up huge responsibilities... I am for woman’s power "...

Yes I support the 33%reservation for women in the urban local bodies. When it is being implemented in all other parts of the country why can’t it be implemented in Nagaland. We very proudly claim that we do not mistreat our women folk unlike in other parts of India, but we are lagging behind compared to the rest of the country in certain aspects. Because over the 5 decades of Nagaland as a state, we have not elected even a single women into our Legislative Assembly. This itself shows that we have not treated our women equally and that we have not included them in the decision making.   What is there that a Naga women cannot do if elected into the decision making bodies? Here we are not even talking about reservation in the Legislative Assembly. It is only at the urban local bodies level i.e. municipalities and town councils.   Besides, reservations it does not mean the reserved constituencies will be permanently reserved for women and men will not be able to contest in those seats. It will be on rotational basis, which means certain constituencies will be reserved for women for a term and in the next term it will be shifted to some others.   After the state government decided to go ahead with the reservation many organisations from different corners of the state are opposing the reservation stating that it is not the right time yet to implement the reservation. My only question to them is when will be the right time for implementing the reservation?

Yes, I do support 33% women reservation in urban local bodies for women because this reservation provides a better platform for women to take part and fight for their rights because women were often discriminated on many grounds ... Women also have the same capabilities as of men. This reservation of seats will encourage their participation in community activities and role in decision making.
