JALUKIE, JANUARY 11 (MExN): The Old Jalukie Village Shifting Day Memorial cum Peren District Open Volleyball Tournament was held on January 11 with NZPO General Secretary, Kingudi Joseph as the special guest. 

While addressing the gathering, the special guest congratulated the elders and citizens of the village and urged them to be the bearers in all fronts to provide a healthy environment by adopting friendliness with neighbouring villages and tribes. He also emphasized on the importance of sports and how sports can mould an individual. 

During the programme, a brief history of the village was shared by Chairman of Old Jalukie Village Council, Hainkeing Hiekha. The programmme was attended by elders, public leaders from the district, leaders from various political parties and Major Surub Dani of the 36th Assam Rifles, Peren. 

Meanwhile, the Jalukie Battalion of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (N) organised a friendly volleyball match with the village youth of Old Jalukie and security forces on January 10. The AR also donated volleyballs and nets for the volleyball tournament.
