VSU & RCSTA hold teacher’s day celebration

Kohima, September 8 (MExN): The Viswema Students Union (VSU) organized its 1st ever combined teacher’s day celebration at Viswema Village and the Razeba Cluster Schools Teachers’ Association (RCSTA) at GHS Razeba on September 5.


A press release received here stated that the VSU organized the teacher’s day programme for the teachers of all the 8 Schools in the village namely – St Josephs Hr Sec School; John Govt Hr Sec School; Viswema Baptist School; GMS K Khel; GPS R Khel; GPS Z Khel; GPS P Khel and JapfüphikiKrüna School. The speaker for the occasion was Dr. HovithalSothu, Project Director, Task Force for Music and Arts (TAFMA). 


It stated that Rev Dr Puthavil Neikha invoked God’s blessing upon the programme. Dr Hovithal Sothu in his speech appreciated the initiative taken by the VSU to organize the event and gave a short message for the students to respect their teachers not only on teacher’s day but every day. Dr Sothu then exhorted the teacher’s present saying that they are professionals and are the role models of their students. He said that without teachers, there will not be any other professions and that a teacher is also a father and a mother to their students and should take care of them at all times. He also reminded the teachers of their duties and responsibilities saying that these things have to be kept in mind and reminded often. 


The release said that the event was organized with the collaborative effort of the students of all the schools whereby, they presented different items. During the programme, the prelude of the event was said by Ahel Vitsu, President VSU as part of its introduction. Dr Chumbeni Kikon, Principal John Govt. Hr. Sec School spoke on behalf of the teachers and VivonüSothu pronounced the vote of thanks. The programme was compeered by Letso Mekro and LozinüNoswe, Er. Kropol Vitsu, Dr. TseilhoutoRhütso, Vikeyie Kennao and Meyiesül Chaya were the main sponsors of the event. More than 90 teachers from all the 8 schools were registered for the programme and a total of around 450 attended the programme, the release said.


The RCSTA also organized its first ever combined teacher’s day programme at GHS Razeba.


A press release received here stated that addressing the gathering as the guest speaker, Former Minister, Deo Nukhu recalled his encounter with Dr S Radhakhrishnan at Kohima, as a young boy of class 6, when Khrsinan came as the President of India to inaugurate Nagaland as the 16th  state of the Indian union. He said that it is a privilege and honor to be a teacher as they can impart education to the youngsters. Deo lauded the teachers for their sincere efforts and sacrifices rendered for the cause of children’s education and further highlighted a brief background of how Teachers’ Day started in India.


Stating that children spend more time with teachers than their own parents, he reminded the teachers that: “when they are put under your care, you are like gardeners, to care for them and nurture them to grow.” He further pointed out that students look up to teachers with much expectation, and urged the teachers that it is their responsibility to teach and discipline the students to become responsible citizens of the nation. “Teachers are nation builders by guiding and mentoring the students”, he said. Deyo also impressed upon English subject teachers to take extra care of English Grammar while observing that educated young people of today’s generation are either careless or know no grammar. “If you are not taught at the primary or elementary level, it is too late to learn English Grammar once you go to college or university”, he said. Another concern he shared was “Tenyidie” while pointing out that through the initiative of Dr Zavise Rume, an MoU was signed between Ura Academy and Razeba area, for students to study Tenyidie language and urged Tenyidie teachers to take the extra trouble of learn diligently and teach students carefully.


 Meanwhile, he also expressed his happiness that a Tenyidie Learning Centre (attached to GHS Razeba) has been set up and called upon the gathering to make the best use of the centre, the release said.


Three best teachers from the area were awarded by the RCSTA, whose attendance were higher and in whose subjects, students got distinctions. Highlights of the event included special presentations by students from various schools in Razeba area. VEC Chairmen and retired teachers also attended the programme, it added. The release further mentioned that the combined cluster schools teachers’ day will be held once in every 3 years the next combined teachers’ day programme will be held on September 5, 2021.
