Wangyuh turned down CM’s request: KSU

MON, SEPT 20 (MExN): The Konyak Students Union yesterday convened an emergency meeting to retaliate against MP Wangyuh who refused to accommodate Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s recommendation to construct the union’s office building at Mon as entreated by the student body. KSU said that they had approached the Chief Minister on July 24 last and asked for financial assistance to construct their office building. Rio, on his part, had approved and forwarded the matter to Wangyuh, asking him to sanction an amount from his resources (LADP) for the project. But to the utmost shock and dismay of KSU, he blatantly turned down CM’s request on behalf of the Union.

KSU received a copy of the letter written to the Chief Minister by Wangyuh, and in retaliation to this ‘outright rejection and affront’, the union termed him as “anti- KSU who is trying to deny the Union its genuine needs,” stating that Wangyuh himself and everybody else is aware that the KSU Office Building is an old, auctioned government quarter built in the 60s, almost falling apart with leaking roofs, broken walls, loose floor, etc, which is beyond repair. KSU said, “We approached the CM with profound anticipation that he will surely help us out of this dilemma, which he tried to do, but it is so unfortunate that Wangyuh, a pioneer of KSU, is against KSU.”  In response to Wangyuh’s claim that he had constructed the KSU Office Building, the students clarified that  Wangyuh’s claim that the KSU Office Building was constructed during his presidency (1986) ‘is beyond doubt false.’ “It was never constructed. Therefore, we have asked CM for it.” The present KSU Office is an Electrical Department Quarter which was auctioned during Wangyuh’s tenure and it remained as it was, the KSU said.

The foundation stone of the present KSU Conference Hall, shared by both KU and KSU, was laid down during John’s presidency (1986-89) and was completed during Wekong’s presidency. Rev Mankup inaugurated the hall on December 12 1992, the student body clarified. “Therefore, you (Wangyuh) must not greedily claim it as your exploit.”

It was further said that by objecting the Chief Minister’s approval of KSU’s project “you are standing on the way of KSU and Konyak’s welfare.”
