WAPO conveys 'unequivocal opposition' to proposed inauguration of incomplete road

Kohima, October 10 (MExN): The Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) today expressed its “strong and unequivocal opposition” to what it termed as  the proposed inauguration of the incomplete Kohima-Pedi-Peren road on October 12 by Union Ministry of Defence Rajnath Singh.

“This scheduled opening, orchestrated by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project Sewak, raises grave concerns over the safety of the public due to the road's incomplete infrastructure and several critical unfinished sections,” the WAPO stated in a press release.

In this connection, the Organisation deemed the inauguration of an incomplete project as “irresponsible and unacceptable.”

It remains incomplete and potentially hazardous with key portions of the road, including vital bridges, have not been fully constructed while the there are incomplete blacktopping on various stretches causing much inconveniences to the commuters for the past many years, the WAPO maintained.

The press release from the WAPO President Kepelhoutuo Chusi thus urged the authorities to immediately halt the planned inauguration and address the completion of the unfinished works.

The WAPO will vigilant and continue to monitor the situation closely, and stands firm in holding the authorities accountable and ensuring that the road is constructed to the highest possible standards before it is inaugurated, it added.
