Kohima | May 19 : Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) observed Year of Plantation day at WAPO Hall Sechü Zubza with Temjen IFS, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) as the resource person on May 19. 10,000 varieties of saplings were distributed in different villages under the aegis of WAPO by Forest department.
Addressing the gathering Temjen said that the only permanent thing in the world is change, which is inevitable. He said scientist has come to the conclusion that the erratic climate change has been resulted due to change in the system and man has manipulated the system. Temjen asserted that Nagaland occupy small place in the country but has government grass-root level support in the form of village councils adding that power comes with responsibilities, not only for law & order or administration but in any issues where WAPO is in the forefront with any happenings in the state and even in terms of environment.
He disclosed that the department is contemplating on Japfu Range, from Southern Dzukhu to Western Dzukhu to declare Community Reserved Areas and talks are on with the concerned organization that falls under the banner of WAPO and SAPO. He further added that India will be hosting “World Environment Day” on 5 June, under the aegis of International year of Forest declared by UN. He also planted a tree at WAPO hall compound.
Earlier the programme was chaired by Vikehielie Victor while Visakuolie Rhatsu, Associate Pastor, SZBC pronounced invocation prayer. Neiyiezietuo Hesielie, Finance secretary WAPO delivered welcome address while CYA Zechu Zubza presented special number. Seyieneizo Mor, pronounced vote of thanks.
