Dimpaur, July 18 (MExN): The two warring factions of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) came together as one entity after a “historic reconciliation” on July 17.
The two factions - one led by S Kamson and the other by Jenchui Kamei - who parted ways “more than one year” ago came together at an event held “somewhere in Zeliangrong areas,” a press release from ZUF Information and Publicity (I&P) informed.
“The historic reconciliation programme heeding to the call of the Zeliangrong people was held in the presence of Zeliangrong Social Organizations’ leaders, Elders, religious leaders and general public in which the leaders of the ZUF took the oath of reconciliation in the name of the Almighty God,” it said.
“The blessing prayer was administered upon the ZUF leaders in order to lead the Zeliangrong people and fraternal brothers to fulfil their political objective,” it added.
According to the release, the reconciled ZUF will be now led by Raitu Chawang as Chairman, S. Kamson as Vice-Chairman and Jenchui Kamei as General Secretary.
During the occasion, the ZUF also assured that that it would “pursue the political cause of the Zeliangrong people and the fraternal tribes with full commitment” and asserted that it “will never betray the people till the collective political goal is achieved,” the release said.
Basing on the political foundation laid by leaders Haipou Jadonang and freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu, the ZUF also assured to strive for “interest and aspiration of the people” till realization, it added.
According to the release, the ZUF also expressed appreciation to the Zeliangrong people and the fraternal tribes for “their unflinching cooperation and full support extended to the ZUF since its inception till today” and sought their “continuous cooperation in the days to come.”
ZUF also affirmed its “political ideology to uphold, safeguard and protect the people, land, natural resources, cultures, custom and tradition etc from different threat within and without,” it said.
The July 17 reconciliation was the outcome of “Ceasefire Agreement” executed by two responsible functionaries each from both the factions on April 7, 2018.
The agreement paved the way for the “historic reconciliation,” the release added.
