DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) have been urged to put into agreement the “crucial and substantive issues that have been painstakingly negotiated and agreed upon between the Government of India and Naga negotiators at the earliest.”
This was conveyed by representatives of fourteen (14) indigenous tribes of Nagaland at a meeting held with the WC-NNPGs at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, Dimapur on September 15.
A press statement issued by media cell, WC-NNPGs stated that the 14 tribes encouraged the NNPGs to strive for peace and unity since violence and bloodshed has taken enough Naga lives. Naga generations are in peril and face uncertain future and therefore negotiations must reach a practical, pragmatic and logical conclusion, the tribes representatives pointed out.
The 14 tribes further opined that, “what is possible at this hour, which is honorable and acceptable, Nagas must take while adding that symbolic issues that remain unresolved be pursued through continuous, consistent democratic and political process.” It also said the aspiration of the Naga people must be fully met in due course of time.
The WC-NNPGs while acknowledging the advice of the 14 tribes assured the Naga people that Indian leaders have demonstrated political will and commitment to solve the Naga issue this time around. A moment has come for Nagas to reciprocate equally. Naga negotiators are confident that a comprehensive political settlement will be announced soon, it stated.
