WDC-PMKSY culmination prog held in Zunheboto

ZUNHEBOTO, OCTOBER 1 (MExN): In commemoration with the Azadi ka Amrit Maha Utsav celebrating 75 years of India's independence, a culmination programme for the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojna-Watershed Development Component (WDC-PMKSY) batch IV to VI for Zunheboto District was organised on September 30 at town hall, Zunheboto by the Land Resource Department (LRD).

Deputy Commissioner, Peter Lichamo while speaking as the guest of honour recollected how popular coffee plantation was in the 1980s in Nagaland, but failed because of unavailability of market.

He further asked farmers to do away with negative mentality. While acknowledging that the government might have made mistakes at times, he said that every scheme being initiated was for the welfare of the farmers.

District Project Officer, Zunheboto, V Vikugha Sema said that the project aims to restore the ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water.

He added that the outcomes are prevention of soil erosion, regeneration of natural vegetation, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water table. This, he stated enables multi-cropping and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.

Earlier the programme was chaired by Roselyn Chishi, Assistant Inspector, LRD; invocation was pronounced by Rev Hukugha Zhimo, ES SBAK Nito Mount; and vote of thanks was delivered by N Kheshito Awomi.
