Wokha, July 8 (MExN): Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organized workshop cum training for Gaon Bura and Dobashis under Wokha district at Town Hall here on July 7.
Around 50 participants, including T. Lanusenla Longkumer, NCS, SDO (C) Wokha, attended the programme.
Speaking on Village Council Act with emphasis on NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme 2015, Joshua Sheqi, Legal Aid Counsel and Trainer NSLSA informed that the scheme is aimed at ensuring access to justice to the tribal people in India.
He apprised that several legal rights guaranteed to the tribal people are the Scheduled Tribes and other Tribal Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act 1996 and Fifth and Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Ashu Theyo, Legal Aid Counsel and Trainer NSLSA, who spoke on Criminal Law (Procedure and law of evidence with emphasis on NALSA-Legal Services to the mentally ill and mentally disabled persons) Scheme 2015, said that the objective of the scheme is to ensure that the mentally ill or disabled are not stigmatized and they are dealt with as individuals who are to be helped to enforce all rights they are entitled to and as assured to them by law.
Neignguvoto Kruse, Legal Aid Council and Trainer NSLSA while speaking on welfare scheme with emphasis on NALSA (Legal services to the senior citizen) Scheme 2015 said that under the scheme the persons above the age of 60 would be regarded as senior citizens. He informed that to outline the basic rights and benefits that should be accorded to senior citizens and ensure access to various governmental schemes and programmes to the senior citizens are some of the objectives of the scheme.
Keynote address was delivered by Seyielenuo Mezhu, NJS, Judicial Magistrate First Class and Secretary WDLSA.
