Agronomy – LK Baishya

1.    Harvesting time for paddy.

2.    Relay cropping should be started in rice fallow  - Pea, Lentil, toria

3.    Selection of crop should be started with available soil moisture or irrigation facility.

4.    Vegetable cultivation in rice fallow should start if irrigation facilities are available.

Plant Breeding & Genetics – Harendra Verma

1.    Farmer should use quality planting and seed materials. Rabi crop variety suitable for our region- For toria - TS-64, TS-36, TS-38; Pea – Aman ; Green Pea – Arkel; Linseed – Parvati.

2.    Seed treatment should be done with bavistin @ 4gm/kg of seed for disease management or chlorpyriphos 4ml/litre of water for insect problem management.

3.    They should procure seed from authentic source such as approved dealers and government agencies and must check the label and seed viability date.

4.    For seed production, they should maintain required isolation distance of 400 meter in toria, 3 meter in field pea and green pea.

5.    Remove the off type plant and remove weeds before they come into flowering stage.

6.    For management of aphid problem in toria, spray imidacloprid 2ml/litre of water.

7.    Spray karathane 1gm/liter of water in pea for control of powdery mildew.

Soil Science – Christy BK Sangma

1.    Nitrogen content is mostly limiting in rice growing areas. For this azolla can be grown along with rice as the nitrogen management practise in rice crop. Azolla can supply nitrogen to the growing rice crop through nitrogen fixation and at the same time it can increase the rice production.

2.    Rice straws after the harvest, can be chopped into small pieces and can be used for vermicomposting and composting.

3.    Rice straws can also be used as mulching for growing winter vegetables or winter crops for moisture conservation.

Plant protection (Pathology) – E Lireni Kikon

1.    Damping off disease in the nursery (most common disease) can be managed by seed treatment with Captan/Thiram @4g/kg before sowing and also by providing proper drainage to reduce water stagnation in the nursery.

2.    Late blight of Tomato and Potato disease which is favoured by wet weather, cool nights and warm days (winter season) can be managed by spraying Trichoderma viride @7g/litre of water + Bacillus subtillis @ 2.5g/litre of water or Mancozeb 75% @2.5g/litre of water.

3.    Powdery mildew disease in pea and cole crops which is favoured by dry and humid weather can be managed by spraying sulphur @2.5g/litre of water. Repeat at 15 days interval if the disease still persists.

Plant protection (Entomology) – Moanaro Lemtur

1.    Install yellow sticky traps in the vegetables nursery and field to monitor the pest population.

2.    If aphids, whiteflies or crinkling of leaves are observed in chilli, tomato and cole crops nursery, spray neem oil @ 2ml/L or Imidacloprid17.8 SL @ 0.3ml/L of water.

3.    If webbing, scrapping or small caterpillars are observed spray neem oil @ 2ml/L or Spinosad 45 SC @ 0.5 ml/L of water.

4.    Deep ploughing of mango orchards for exposing eggs and pupae of insects.

5.    Spray Imidacloprid17.8 SL @ 0.5ml/L of water on stem branches of mango plants prior to flowering and fallen leaves to kill the hibernating adult stone weevils hiding in the bark where ever problem exists.

Poultry –Mahak Singh and Talimoa

1.    With the arrival of winter, it warrants provision for providing warmth to all categories of birds. Therefore, plans for proper insulation of sheds should be made.

2.    Deep litter: If possible a fresh batch should be layered in provision for the winter months.

3.    Lighting: While adults may require only LED bulbs, chicks and growers should be provided filament bulbs@ 100 watts/square metre ideally.  It is extremely essential to provide the correct level of warmth to the chicks, especially the brooding chicks since they have a tendency to huddle and suffocate. It is also necessary to alert them and cause activity and movement among the chicks during night hours frequently.

4.    During cold stress, birds may suffer from a number of respiratory diseases. Therefore, the owner should be very alert to isolate and treat such birds. Sick birds showing respiratory distress, drooping of head or any other illness should be promptly segregated and the entire flock be treated against the illness. Dead birds should be buried or burnt. Do not dispose in open bins where scavengers can reach.

5.    Disinfection of drinkers and feeders regularly and vaccination and deworming should be followed in schedule.

6.    In absence of electricity, warmth can be provided from charcoal chullahs/ gas brooders with a grill to protect birds from getting burnt.

Piggery – Mahak Singh and Talimoa

1.    Insulation: Pig sheds should be provided insulation to protect pigs from cold. Pregnant and lactating sows should be given special attention. Newborn piglets are very susceptible to cold stress and succumb very rapidly especially during diarrhoea.

2.    Therefore piglets sleeping areas should be provided with good source of warmth.

3.    Pigs should be provided high energy ration in winter. The energy component of ration like maize may be increased to provide more energy.

4.    Piglets must be given iron supplements on the 3rd and 14th day post farrowing to prevent piglet anemia.

5.    Deworming and vaccination against classical swine fever must be carried out on schedule in all age groups of pigs.

6.    Unauthorised visitors to pig sheds must be prohibited.

7.    Disinfection of foot wear is ideally to be done during each entry and exit from the pig shed.

8.    The pig sheds must be washed and disinfected regularly.

Fishery- Jyotish Barman

1.    Feeding should be continued @ 16 kg/day/ha. Feeding should be done twice daily.

2.    As a precautionary measure of the disease EUS (Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome), farmers are requested to apply lime in the pond to maintain the desired pH level. Quantity of lime should be determined after checking the pH level in consultation with Fishery Expert. Avoid netting as far as possible during the winter months.Scoop out the dead and moribund fishes and bury them at a distant place mixing with quick lime

3.    Do not share fish harvesting net of others as they may carry the germs

4.    In ponds, where water level is low, care should be taken to remove organic load from the pond bottom.

5.    Partial harvesting of stocked fish should be done to reduce stocking load.

6.    While harvesting, care to be taken not to injure fish. Injured fish should not be re-stocked.

7.    Aquatic weed especially the floating weeds should be removed, so that the pond receives enough sunlight.
