For cole crops, light irrigation on every alternate day may be given for better establishment and smooth growth. Mulching must be done after irrigation.
Wrapping of plastic sheets around mango trunk should be done for preventing climbing of young mealy bugs. Apply grease to seal any cracks in the polythene sheets. Irrigation should be done in all orchards
In fruit crops and perennial vegetables, apply organic mulches after earthing up and weeding to conserve residual soil moisture as well as to maintain the soil temperature.
In citrus nursery, diseases may appear any time of plant growth through contaminated water, soil and even through nursery workers and implements. Therefore a regular monitoring should be done for infection and in case of infection; the infected/contaminated plants should immediately be uprooted and destroyed to keep the nursery totally free.
During heading stage of cabbage, inner leaves get riddled with caterpillars showing round transparent cuticular patches caused by feeding. Neem based formulations should be sprayed @ 4 ml/litre and remove cruciferous, solanaceous and liliaceae group plants in and around the field if the infestation is high.
While inspecting ginger and turmeric plot, the healthy plants/plots must be marked and kept for planting in the next season. Marking has to be done properly otherwise when plant matures and gets dried up, it will be very difficult to find out the marked plots.
Harvest during the coolest part of the day that is early morning or late afternoon; do not harvest produce when it is wet from dew as it will be more likely to decay. Protect harvested produce in the field by putting it under open-sided shade when transport is not immediately available. Disease affected plants should be pulled out.
One month prior to harvest of colocasia, all the suckers may be wrapped around the base of the mother plant and covered with soil by earthing up, for arresting further vegetative growth and sprouting of tubers. After this, irrigation has to be withheld to hasten maturity. Harvesting is done by carefully uprooting the plants and the mother corms and cormels are separated.
