
Wokha, December 30 (MExN): Hornbill CC, Kohima, today defeated LCYO by 28 runs while Royal Strikers humiliated Shoorveer 28 Assam Rifles by 120 runs to enter the semifinals of the ongoing 21st Winter Cricket Challenge, played at Local Ground, Wokha. Hornbill Cricket Club (HCC) electing to bat first set up a huge total of 173 runs while losing 5 wickets Tapitu led the run scoring with 45 runs. Barjish and Ananto chipped in 33 and 31 runs respectively. For LCYO, Yingathung and Zarenthung claimed 2 wickets a piece. LCYO’s run chase started strongly as Chumben (31 runs) and Yingathuing (22) kept the scoreboard ticking. But the target proved too much as they could only muster 145 runs from the - 29 runs short of the target. Akash was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 wickets while Moakum claimed two. Tapitu was later adjudged man of the match. In the other quarterfinal match, Royal Strikers winning the toss elected to bat. A solid knock of 65 runs from Man of the Match Jubin assisted by Roshan (29) and Sajid (28) helped set a target of 169 runs. Shoorveer’s Narender finished the match with a haul of 5 wickets while Mon Mohan and Amar Nath claimed a wicket each. Shoorveer 28 AR run chase though was a disaster as they were bowled out in the ninth over for a paltry 48 runs. Mon Mohan was the only batsman who defied the onslaught of the Royal Strikers bowlers remaining unbeaten on 16 runs. Vicky and Jubin shared 3 wickets each while Montu and Sajid claimed a wicket each.
