Withhold NSEE counseling: ENCSU appeals state government

Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU) has appealed the state government and the Technical Department to withhold from conducting the Nagaland State Entrance Examination (NSEE) counselling for 2016-17 batch until the issue of reservation for Backward Tribes (BT) is settled.

Reaffirming its earlier representation submitted to Chief Minister, Nagaland on August 12 through Temjen Toy, Principal Secretary to CM, the union stated that it remained unsatisfied with the outcome of Friday’s meeting with the Chief Secretary held at the Conference Hall, in which, the union maintained, “government representative couldn't response positively to our demands”.

“The officials present in the meeting instead of solving the issue, again started to interpret the MCI rules which we had enough of deliberation in the past meetings,” the ENCSU stated in a press release.

Pointing out that Nagaland conducts its own NSEE Exam as per the directive of SC, the union argued that there is no point in bringing MCI rules in the State level exam.

Further insisting that it understand the rules of MCI, the union questioned as to how the department implied two rules from different bodies in one exam.

With regard the NSEE and 15% reservation for BT, it maintained that the issue is purely a state matter and informed that the case has been referred to the state cabinet as per today's meeting.   Expressing hope of a positive outcome, the ENCSU requested the Cabinet to act wisely so that the deprived people will get its due share without much delay.

“If the department wants to manipulate the system by the MCI rules, the union would like to know who gave the authority to the department for 15% reservations and to set up Common Selection Board (CSB), which is unwritten even in MCI and state framed rules,” the union asked.

The ENCSU also hit out at the Secretary and the Director of Technical Department over their absence in the meeting called by the Chief Secretary, and instead, “sending lower official just to make them scapegoat.”

Claiming that the department is misleading top officials and the public by misinterpreting the MCI rules, the union appealed to the Chief Minister to call for a joint meeting with the Union “in order to clear the air of confusion about the MCI rules”.   The Union informed that it will decide the second phase of agitation based on the outcome of tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.
