CHÜMOUKEDIMA, APRIL 26 (MExN): The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) convened a consultative meeting on April 24 at Diphupar Village Council Hall. The meeting was attended by representatives from associated tribal youth and patron organisations, namely DAYO, RYOD, DNYO, ZYOD, WCYO, DENSU (representing youths of seven eastern tribes), and BAN.
The house deliberated on the prevailing social unrest and expressed grave concern over the rising crime rate within society, especially the alarming increase in crimes against women. There was a unanimous sentiment of disappointment at the perceived failure of the administration and government in ensuring justice for the victims.
Among the cases discussed, the WNYF noted that the physical assault of a nurse at the District Hospital Dimapur on February 24 remains unresolved, with the charge-sheet yet to be filed. It also expressed concern over the murder of a young mother at Pimla on April 7, which has seen no substantial progress in investigation or delivery of justice. Further, the sexual assault of multiple women by an IAS officer, reportedly beginning as early as 2021, still awaits a verdict, despite widespread condemnation and calls for justice.
WNYF stated that the inability of the administration and government to act swiftly and decisively in these cases is deeply concerning and condemnable. It said justice delayed is justice denied, and in these cases, justice is clearly being denied. It cautioned that continued inaction may lead to unrest if the people, especially the youth, begin to lose patience and take matters into their own hands. The government must take immediate steps to restore public trust by holding the perpetrators accountable and delivering timely justice.
WNYF also resolved to extend full support to the ongoing protest by CTAN and NNQF against the regularisation of 147 contractual Assistant Professors and librarian. Should the authorities fail to address this issue satisfactorily, WNYF said it will not hesitate to join in further agitation and will fully cooperate in any future course of action deemed necessary by the protesting bodies as it directly concerns all the youths.
