The State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) organised an awareness programme focusing on the Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and themes for VDB Secretaries Bodies under RGSA in Wokha on June 7. The resource persons for the training programme included Principal ETC, SIRD Suohienuo Keyho, and Senior Lecturer, SIRD, Dr C Nyekha.
Principal ETC, SIRD, Suohienuo Keyho highlighted that India, with the second-largest population globally, underscores the significance of state and local government in the nation’s progress.
She said that the Department of Rural Development plays a pivotal role in implementing programmes and schemes, with a focus on poverty reduction, food security, and universal healthcare, ensuring quality education, as well as access to water and sanitation, remains integral to these initiatives.
She further noted that the implementation of schemes for and projects is conducted by the Department of Rural Development, while the training programmes are conducted by the Department of State Institute of Rural Development.
Additionally, she mentioned that nine themes under LSDG have been introduced to the VDB secretaries and are currently being implemented by the Village Development Board and community bodies under RGSA.
Senior Lecturer, SIRD, Dr C Nyekha, emphasised on the following themes: poverty free and livelihood enhanced village, healthy village, village with adequate water, village with independent infrastructure, and village with good governance.
